Condado Vanderbilt resort

Whether this is your first time vacationing with kids or you’re a seasoned family traveler, the most important thing is to make sure everyone enjoys their San Juan vacation. That can come with some compromise, but luckily for guests at Condado Vanderbilt Hotel there are plenty of nearby options that will be enjoyable for everyone. We’ve hand-selected some of our favorite kid-friendly activities in Puerto Rico to help you make the most of your vacation.

Head to the Beach
Beach time is great for family members of all ages, providing some relaxing sunbathing time for the parents and plenty of opportunity to play for the kids. The best part of a beach day is that you won’t have to travel far to get there. Just step outside of your luxury hotel in Puerto Rico and walk down to the private beach at Condado Vanderbilt for all the sand, sun and ocean you could desire. Make your beach experience a day to remember by renting boogie boards, snorkels, and sand castle building toys for the kids.

Go for a Hike
There are a variety of options for kid-friendly hikes in El Yunque National Forest, within an hour’s drive of your luxury hotel in Puerto Rico. This tropical rainforest will be unlike anything your kids have experienced before, complete with waterfalls, swimming holes, wildlife viewing, and lots of opportunities to search for bugs and wild flowers. Taking a ranger-led tour will ensure that you’re seeing the best the park has to offer, and also allows your kids to ask questions to their heart’s desire.

Experience the Bioluminescent Lagoons
Many visitors to Puerto Rico would never guess that there are three bioluminescent bays around the island, each offering a unique opportunity to see the beautifully glowing underwater plant life that makes the ocean light up with colors. The two main spots to take a tour are Vieques and Fajardo, both within an hour of San Juan. The bioluminescence needs to be experienced at dark, so you’ll want to go with kids that are old enough to stay up a bit later. The best ways to experience the bioluminescence are through walking, kayaking or boat tours.

Have a Fun Educational Trip
Kids are naturally curious and excited by seeing new things, so treat the whole family to a trip to the Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park, within an hour from the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel. Let the kids explore the 19th century lighthouse, salt-water aquarium, mini zoo, replica pirate ship and pirate’s cave, and Taino village museum. This educational trip has enough to keep the children entertained for several hours, and gives the parents a chance to learn a bit more about the island as well.
